‘And because you belong to him, the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death. So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus. ‘
Romans 8:1-2 NLT
There are decisions or moments in our life that make us cringe at the thought of them. Regret and self-condemnation are some of the things that keep you a slave to your past. A constant replay of past decisions, what should have been, the what-ifs, hoping you had made better decisions, can leave you paralyzed and stop you from living your best life now. Sometimes we are bound by decisions we know we did not have control over, even if that was the best decision at the time. Say taking a loved one off life support, you may be wondering if you gave up too easily. Or a job you took that led you down a completely different career path. Even after the due diligence you did, you may find yourself self-blaming. Today God is saying to you, I have set you free from all shame, hurt, and guilt. I encourage you to forgive yourself and set yourself free of this cycle of blame because God surely has! Here is the thing, you will never know if you keep wondering. Instead, take advantage of the opportunities that came with the consequences of your decision.
Going forward, one may be asking ‘how then can I avoid being in the same predicament as I have previously found myself in? Is a life of no regret really possible seeing that I am in regret right now? Is this really possible? A life of no regrets is one that was first introduced to me some years back, and it stuck. So I started making decisions aware of the consequences. I would take time to pray and think deeply about any issue. If my decision went, either way, I wouldn’t be phased because I was prepared. You may be wondering, ‘Isn’t regret inevitable?’ When circumstances really turn for the worst when you are hoping for the best. There is but one who guarantees us a life of NO REGRETS whatsoever, the Holy Spirit. Our strength, due diligence, and caution can only take us so far! However, the Holy Spirit was given to us to lead us into all truth. No more facades or deception. Everything you get into is known and led by God. Before you make the next big decision in your life; consult the Holy Spirit. It’s a decision you will never regret as you live a life free of guilt.
