Delivered from all your fears

‘I sought the Lord [on the authority of His word], and He answered me, And delivered me from all my fears. ‘ Psalms 34:4 AMP

When David wrote this Psalm he was reflecting on past events (1 Samuel 21:1-15). He had been on the run from Saul who had “gone rogue”. David arrives at Nob and there he meets Ahimelech, the priest. He asks for a weapon either a sword or spear to take with him. And he is given Goliath’s sword. The same man who he had defeated by God’s power had become so paralyzed with fear that he thought he needed a sword! He recognizes one of Saul’s men and flees to Gath, Goliath’s city.

How worse could it get? Going to the place where everyone recognizes you for killing their “hero”. And indeed King Achish, of Gath recognized him immediately. David fearing the consequences of Goliath’s murder pretends to be insane to save his own life. Imagine a man anointed by God, a man who had been given a sure prophecy that he would be King over God’s people, going to great lengths to save his own life by pretending to be crazy. David became overwhelmed by his fears such that at that moment it had power over his faith. Sounds familiar?

Later he realizes that it was not his own stamina, or strategy that saved him, it was God. Maybe the year 2020 has had its fair share of fears brew on the inside of you. From the shaken security of your business, job, school, family, to the uncertainty of your future and dreams. Maybe you lost a loved one and find yourself fearing for your own life. Even when things are seemingly not going as expected after God spoke and confirmed His promise to you. Be assured of this, all your fears will not overtake you because He has delivered you through the spirit of power, love, and self-discipline. When you seek the authority of His word, all fears that creep in, have no place in your life.
