Midnight hour mysteries

Midnight hour mysteries have been revealed to believers for their benefit. The bible tells us that ‘The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but the things that are revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law. Deuteronomy 29:29 ‘But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: 1 Corinthians 2:9-16.

The Holy Spirit, our teacher, enjoys revealing the secret things of the Kingdom of God. These secrets are not only for our knowledge but for our success in the Kingdom of God. They give us an advantage, a distinction in this world. Midnight is a time of transition from one day to the next. The start of a new day and the end of another. But what does this mean in the spiritual realm?

The wisest King Solomon in the book of Ecclesiastes explicitly explains that everything under heaven has a season and a time. Understanding the times and the power associated with certain spiritual exercises will see you live victoriously all the time. From scripture, we pick up that midnight was the one time most spiritual activities took place. Midnight is also a time where we see wickedness at it’s peak, but can also be a time of insurmountable victory for the believer.

What is the significance of praying at midnight?

When Jesus, in Luke`s account of the gospels, teaches His disciples how to pray and get answers every time. He continues His teaching by giving an illustration. In this account, Jesus explains how the illustration represents our relationship with God. He explains how God answers the effectual fervent prayers of His children, and how He answers them immediately. This prayer principle is one I have personally used for more than 7 years with 100% success every time.

An example of what prayer at midnight can do is given in Acts 16:25 where Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and suddenly there was a violent earthquake, which shook the prison to its foundations. Immediately, all the doors opened, and the chains fell off all the prisoners. It happened so suddenly that God loosed their chains, and the prison gates opened.

Here is why it worked for them and why it will work for you too. When you make a decision to pray and seek God when you should be sleeping, you catch the enemy unawares. Applying this prayer mystery is bound to yield tremendous results. The following are 10 spiritual secrets you need to know about the midnight hour.

The midnight hour is a time of temptation

‘for my husband is not home. He’s away on a long trip. Come, let’s drink our fill of love until morning. Let’s enjoy each other’s caresses, I’ve perfumed my bed with myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon. My bed is spread with beautiful blankets, with colored sheets of Egyptian linen. You’re the one I was looking for! I came out to find you, and here you are! “I’ve just made my peace offerings and fulfilled my vows. She threw her arms around him and kissed him, and with a brazen look she said, She is often in the streets and markets, soliciting at every corner. She was the brash, rebellious type, never content to stay at home. The woman approached him, seductively dressed and sly of heart. It was at twilight, in the evening, as deep darkness fell. He was crossing the street near the house of an immoral woman, strolling down the path by her house. I saw some naive young men, and one in particular who lacked common sense. While I was at the window of my house, looking through the curtain, ‘ Proverbs 7:6-19 NLT

Midnight is a time when spiritual wickedness is prevalent. We see how the rate of crimes is highest at this time. It’s a time when prostitution, murder, theft, rape, etc. all happen. Not that these do not happen n at any other time during the day, no, however, most of these crimes happen in the night. The same happens in the realm of the spirit. The bible tells us that while men are sleeping, the enemy comes to sow seeds of evil. This explains why most people often experience sexual dreams during this time. This explains why people have dreams of things being stolen from them at this time. It also explains why nightmares are more prevalent at this time.

The enemy likes to attack when we are most vulnerable and unsuspecting. Just like in the text, he seeks eagerly who to devour and destroy. He is cunning and will lure us into his lair and destroy our lives. This is why it’s important to maintain a culture of prayer, especially at midnight, and rigorous study of the word of God. It is important to train ourselves through spiritual exercise so that our spirit man is charged up and conscious even when we are asleep.

The midnight hour is a time of weakening the enemy

‘But Samson stayed in bed only until midnight. Then he got up, took hold of the doors of the town gate, including the two posts, and lifted them up, bar and all. He put them on his shoulders and carried them all the way to the top of the hill across from Hebron. ‘ Judges 16:3 NLT

The midnight hour is a time to declare war. Gates represent an access point. Samson`s act created access to the enemy`s camp, which weakened them. When people were sleeping, he incapacitated the Gaza army by exposing their city to whom may. And he did this whilst the army slept. The Gazites laid wait for him after they found out he was in their vicinity. They planned to attack him in the morning.

However, Samson got up at midnight, when they least expected it, and caught them off guard. Generally, the midnight hour is a time when people are in deep sleep and exhausted. It is the climax of our sleep. Samson knew that his opponents were the weakest at this time and decided to weaken them further. This teaches us a whole lot about how the spiritual realm operates. Midnight is a time you can use to your advantage to set things right in your life. The midnight hour is a time of favor

‘Around midnight Boaz suddenly woke up and turned over. He was surprised to find a woman lying at his feet! ‘ Ruth 3:8 NLT

One may perceive Ruth as being deceptive. Why would she wait until the midnight hour to come to Boaz? Here is a little background of this story. Ruth was acting on the instruction of her mother-in-law, mother to her late husband. It wasn’t her own thinking or doing. She then prepared herself to receive what she desired to have, a family of her own. Ruth had become a childless widow after the loss of her husband. She went in where Boaz lay in sincerity and loyalty to her family. And Boaz recognized this, favored her and her life changed forever.

If you are saying well this is old testament stuff, here is something Jesus says about favor at midnight. When Jesus is teaching the apostles about the prayer, He gives an interesting illustration to explain His point. In this parable He explains how one man’s persistence got him what he needed from his friend. He goes on to say ‘I tell you, even though he will not get up and give him anything just because he is his friend, yet because of his persistence and boldness he will get up and give him whatever he needs. “So I say to you, ask and keep on asking, and it will be given to you; seek and keep on seeking, and you will find; knock and keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who keeps on asking [persistently], receives; and he who keeps on seeking [persistently], finds; and to him who keeps on knocking [persistently], the door will be opened. ‘
Luke 11:8-10. Know how to take advantage of the midnight hour with this prayer principle so you can get the results you want.

The midnight hour is a time for killing

‘In a moment they die, even at midnight The people are shaken and pass away, And the powerful are taken away without a [human] hand. ‘ Job 34:20 AMP

Satan has three goals which he administers in different forms, that is to steal, kill and destroy. So whatever he or his agents set out to do in your life, is for your destruction. He attacks your identity, your relationship with God, so that you can question your authority over him and divert you from fulfilling your purpose. Because midnight is a time of intense spiritual activity, spiritual slumber at this hour can cause death. At midnight, the enemy will sow seeds of despair, discouragement, sickness, and disease, and worse, death. In the parable of the tares, Jesus explains the importance of watching and praying. The importance of being alert at all times so you can see when the enemy sneaks in.

The midnight hour is a time of raising dead things

‘On the first day of the week, we gathered with the local believers to share in the Lord’s Supper. Paul was preaching to them, and since he was leaving the next day, he kept talking until midnight. The upstairs room where we met was lighted with many flickering lamps. As Paul spoke on and on, a young man named Eutychus, sitting on the windowsill, became very drowsy. Finally, he fell sound asleep and dropped three stories to his death below. Paul went down, bent over him, and took him into his arms. “Don’t worry,” he said, “he’s alive!” ‘ Acts 20:7-10 NLT

The scripture tells us that, around midnight one of the men who was listening to Paul preach, fell asleep and fell to his death. Paul who was operating in the power of the Holy Spirit, held him and the man came back to life. As we have seen in the previous point, and as studies have shown, most people die at night or around midnight. You can stand in the authority of the name of Jesus Christ and take advantage of prayer in the Holy Spirit and declare life to the dead things and areas in your life. Midnight prayer can be the difference between death and preservation of life.

The midnight hour is a time when chains are broken

‘And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them. And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one’s bands were loosed. ‘ Acts 16:25-26 KJV

The midnight hour is a time to reverse deep-sited machinations of the enemy. Where the enemy has placed generation curses over your life, that have kept you and your family in bondage, you can apply the mystery of the midnight hour to your advantage. Years of bondage can be broken in an instance. The bible tells us that when Paul and Silas were praising and praying at midnight, God immediately answered. As believers, we have Jesus Christ alive in us. Therefore, when we stand in prayer and declare His Word, we are able to exercise authority and dominion over the areas of stagnation and bondage in our lives.

The midnight hour is a time for God’s vengeance

‘And it came to pass, that at midnight the LORD smote all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharaoh that sat on his throne unto the firstborn of the captive that was in the dungeon; and all the firstborn of cattle. ‘ Exodus 12:29 KJV

Because of the magnitude of spiritual activity at midnight, God releases His angels to fight for His children and restore the order on earth. So when you couple this mystery with the other mysteries before this, you can position yourself to let God exercise His wrath over your enemies.

The midnight hour is a time of deliverance

‘And he called for Moses and Aaron by night, and said, Rise up, and get you forth from among my people, both ye and the children of Israel; and go, serve the LORD , as ye have said. ‘ Exodus 12:31 KJV

The Word of God tells us that ‘The prayer of a person living right with God is something powerful to be reckoned with.’ It yields results. Sometimes you might not be well aware of the battles that you are fighting in your life or areas that may need deliverance, which is why it is important to pray in the spirit so God can bring you out of the enemy’s camp. Because of your fight, and the activation of God’s angels on the battlefront, the enemy will give up fighting you and release you from his grip.

The midnight hour is a time of exchange

‘And this woman’s child died in the night; because she overlaid it. And she arose at midnight, and took my son from beside me, while thine handmaid slept, and laid it in her bosom, and laid her dead child in my bosom. ‘ 1 Kings 3:19-20 KJV

If you are weary during this time, your destiny will be exchanged for another evil one. This is especially easy for the enemy when we give him access through continuous sin and dabbling with witchcraft, horoscopy and new age practices. Anything that is not of God or outlined in His Word can open doors for the enemy to manipulate your life. But here is the good news, when you are spiritually awake and active at midnight, you can take advantage of the time to take back everything the enemy has stolen from you. You can rewire and reset your life to align with God’s purpose for you.

The midnight hour is a time when God gives instructions

‘He speaks in dreams, in visions of the night, when deep sleep falls on people as they lie in their beds.’ Job 33:15 NLT

Midnight is a time when God speaks and gives instructions to his children in dreams and visions. Dreams and visions are one of the many ways God speaks to people through visuals and encounters. Many believers may think God doesn’t speak, and others are even too afraid of their own dreams. This should not be the case.

When you are equipped with the knowledge to understand your dreams and visions, these can be an advantage for your life. God can use dreams and visions to show you your future, to give warnings, to direct and instruct us, or to show you activities in the spirit realm so you can take action. This is why it’s important to guard our eyes and hearts so that nothing pollutes God’s message. Dreams are not to be feared, neither are they designed to cause us paralysis. Instead, God reveals for our benefit.
